Job Description

The Reentry Programs Manager will coordinate and implement Reentry and other community programs at the Ravenswood library space, Queensboro Correctional Facility, and other locations in western Queens, working in collaboration with Programs & Services Department’s (PSD) Community Learning division.

 

The Reentry Programs Manager will design and implement programs and services, create program schedules, ensure promotion of the programs and services, assign responsibilities, and monitor the goals of the programs and services. The Reentry Programs Manager will ensure the collection and reporting of relevant and useful data. This position focuses on providing programs and services for incarcerated and formerly-incarcerated individuals and their loved ones. The Reentry Programs Manager will also respond to the needs of the local community and facilitate other programming, such as Teen or Adult Learning, that are informed by the needs and wants of the local community. This position will also conduct outreach and promotion locally, especially to local shelters. This position is a supervisory role to 1-2 reentry staff. Because this role includes work at the Queensboro Correctional Facility, maintaining “volunteer status” at the facility is a requirement. Performs other duties as assigned.

Major Responsibilities

Programming and Outreach

  • Conducts & oversees programs.
  • Creates long-term and short-term program calendars,
  • Determines appropriate programs and services for patrons outside the library, including at prisons and shelters.
  • Maintains and reports program data.
  • Conducts meetings with external partners.
  • Work with Assistant Director of Jail, Prison, Reentry Services and Ravenswood Site Coordinator to determine appropriate use of assigned budget, with a focus on reentry and community desires.
  • Perform independent, appropriate, and self-driven outreach.
  • Discern most effective uses of outreach and promotion.
  • Promote all library services, as appropriate.
  • Organizes and plans partnership meetings.

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Provides customer service and maintains a welcoming environment.
  • Conducts outreach and promotes services.
  • Making decisions and determinations about space safety.
  • Providing all necessary information to Ravenswood space manager Collaborates and works closely with the Ravenswood Site Coordinator.
  • Assists with the opening and closing of the Ravenswood library space. 

Supervision of Staff - Scheduling staff

  • Conducts staff meetings.
  • Manages staff schedules.
  • Manages and supervises 1-2 reentry staff.

 

**The schedule for this position may include Saturdays and evenings as required. Will be required to regularly travel to and from library sites and other locations within the borough of Queens.**

Required Education, Certifications And Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • 2 years of community engagement experience.
  • 1 year of jail, prison, or reentry experience.
  • Ability to maintain volunteer status at Queensboro Correctional Facility.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and an interest in leading and managing staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Commitment to serving all communities in the most diverse area of the country.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

This is a union position, represented by District Council 37. The starting annual salary is  $67,583.00. The Queens Public Library is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
